Welcome freshmen at the Faculty of Physics and Earth Sciences. We are the Elferrat Physik und Geowissenschaften e.V. and we will ensure that, next to the hard everyday university life, fun will not come off badly during the next few weeks.

The highlight of this semester is – of course – the Physikfasching on January 09th, 2026 located at Werk 2. But for now we have created a series of freshmen events for you. During each event you can collect freshmen cards. Just speak to a different member of our Elferrat at each event. If you have collected 5 cards you can get a free mulled wine and if you have 6 you can even get a free ticket to our Physikfasching.

The events of the Elferrat are stylized in orange and those from the student representatives (short FSR or FaRaPhy) in dark blue.
This is what we planned for you the next weeks:

Handcart tour:

Using our handcart filled with beverages we take you to the most important spots for your studies in Leipzig. During this tour you can meet up with your fellow students or ask us anything you want to know. It’s a great opportunity.
On the 24th of September at 3 p.m. we will be waiting for you to join us at the main entrance of the Physics faculty.
Afterwards, we want to have a barbecue with you and end the evening.

Gaming Afternoon:

At around 3 pm, in the Seminar rooms of the faculty: The FaRaPhy invites you to play various board games. Use the evening to get to know your fellow students better. You are welcome to bring your own games.

Preparation Course Meeting:

After the games afternoon, at around 5 pm, you will get to know your future lecturers and fellow students at the preparation course meeting.

Meeting point: Inner courtyard between physics and chemistry faculty

Drinking games evening

We meet at on the 07th October at 6 pm in the courtyard.

Come along, get to know your fellow students better and show them what you’ve got when it comes to Flunkyball, Beer Pong and Rage Cage! You can also challenge us, the Elferrat (in orange outfits) to a specially created Elferrat drinking game.

Of course, there are also non-alcoholic alternatives.

Faculty Tour (NEW DATE): 

On the 07th of October, The FaRaPhy offers you a tour through our faculty to get to know the most important places like lecture halls, seminar rooms, the study office and much more.
Meeting point: large stone staircase in front of the main entrance, Linnéstr. 5 Time: 3pm

Sternburg brewery tour: 

What could be better than experiencing real student culture at the start of the semester?

Sternburger Exportbier is probably one of the most popular and affordable beers in the region.

Join the FaRaPhy on a tour of Leipzig’s most famous brewery. Registration is required on their Website.

Coffee, cake (and beer)

After the first few lectures it’s time for a snack. With coffee, tea (and beer) and also maybe a piece of cake you can have a talk with the others and of course gain another one of the much sought-after freshman-cards of ours.
You can meet us on the 14.10.2025 from 10.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the faculty.

Bar tour:

Join the most orange bar tour in town! On the 17.10.2025, we’ll show you the most exciting bars and pubs on the famous Karl-Liebknecht-Straße.
Meet us at 6 p.m. at Südplatz.

Open-late store tour 21.10.2025:

Späti: these small shops, which are essential for students, are open longer than normal supermarkets and offer a great solution for all those who have forgotten the time and need a beer or something to eat at midnight.

We will go with you around the Spätis in the southern city in groups and enjoy a drink or two along the way.

Movie night:

On the 05.11.2025 we wanna show you a selection of film clips, sketches and dance clips of the last years to see if you have interest to join our club in the future and offer some beer, non-alcoholic drinks and also pizza for student prices.
It’ll be starting at 6 p.m. in the theoretic lecture hall of the Physics faculty. The admission starts at 5:30 p.m.. P.S.: This is also a great opportunity to get started for the night!

Fresher’s Trip:

In order to give you the opportunity to get to know each other better, we will organize a trip with lots of games and activities, where the focus is on having fun. The trip will take place from 14. to 16.11.2025 and will go to Reibitz. You can secure a ticket to the Fresher’s Trip by visiting our other events, go to our ticket sales outside of your lecture halls (dates will follow), or talk to the FaRaPhy, your student representatives.
